Same Science and Mathematics course for all schools
In a big step towards ensuring a
level playing field for students across the country, the Council for
Board of Secondary Education (COBSE) in a meeting with 20 state boards
on February 16, 2010 in New Delhi, decided to have a core curriculum in
science and mathematics for classes XI-XII across all boards in the
country from 2011.
And in 2013, when the first batches of students who have studied the core curriculum pass out, there is a likelihood of their taking a single entrance examination for engineering colleges and a single entrance test for medical colleges. Though it remains to be seen if IITs and AIIMS agree to the idea of a common entrance examination, HRD ministry officials are hopeful that even these premier institutions will see merit in a common entrance. ‘‘In all likelihood, only top rankers will join IITs or AIIMS,’’ one official said.
